This past summer I worked at an all girls camp as a costume designer in beautiful, moose-filled Maine, for 7 weeks as a break from my current job. Being a bunk counselor I had been re-introduced into the all the latest teen news and pop-culture. The age-group I was in charge of was 13-14 years old, and out of boredom, and a craving to read, I would flip through some of the "Teeny Bopper" magazines lying around the bunk. At 13 and 14 I was not into "Bop", "Teen Beat", or what-have-you, I had stopped reading those at the age of 11 when New Kids on the Block was popular... I was more into Cosmo and Elle (which now both have teen versons), because I was into sewing and fashion. *ponders* I suppose that reflects on what I am doing now. Anywho... The girls would ask on occasion: What were you into at our age?
WARNING.... You are considered old by a 14 year-old at 25 when the following comments are made:
1979! I was born in 1990!
New Kids on the Block? I heard about them on VH1's I love the 80's, 1989.
Jessica Simpson is old.
What is Z. Cavaricci and I.O.U. ?
I want to be married at 25 and have a kid by 26.
I was 7 when you graduated High School, and now I am starting.
Wow, 1995 seems like forever ago!
Was Ronald Regan a good president?
You are done with University already? Are you engaged?
In what year did you start kindergarden? 1984! Wow, my 17 year-old sister wasn't even born yet! That is 20 years ago.
I am not old... I still think of myself as a kid at times. I think I always will. Needless to say I think I took more away from those girls this summer than they took from me.
